Picket Fence Installed Swadlincote, Derbyshire: Martin Chambers, Ashdale Fencing
We were called to a home in Swadlincote to Install a Picket Fence. The homeowner had a small Privet hedge growing around the perimeter of the property.
The privet hedge was unruly and needed constant maintenance. Furthermore, the thickness of the hedge meant that the home had less garden space. It was decided to replace the hedge with a small fence, and the team at Ashdale Fencing suggested having a Picket Fence installed.
Removing a hedge for fencing
We are often asked about swapping hedges for fences. This can be a big job if the hedges are large in size and are of a mature age. There are essentially 3 ways to remove the hedges.
- Cut the trees with a chainsaw and poison the stump
- Winch the trees out of the ground, using a block and tackle or other suitable methods
- Use a tree plucker to pluck out the trees making the hedge.
In this instance, we winched the small trees out. The property was fairly new, and so the trees weren’t too old and came out fairly easily. We made sure all the tree roots were properly removed to prevent any regrowth.
Installing the Picket Fence
Once the trees were removed, we began the fence installation with a small picket gate to match. The fence panels were made from green, smooth, planed pressure-treated timber. As you can see from the photo below, the fence panels match the stonework of the house beautifully.
