Concrete Fence Posts and Feather Edge Panels:
This example of garden fencing is what we’d call “a bread and butter job”. It’s probably the most common sort of work any Derby Fencing contractor does on a daily basis.
We were called to a house at Hilton, which is near both Derby City and Burton on Trent. Much of our work is carried out in this area, though we do also accept work from all over the UK.
Removing a Hedge First
The owner wanted us to remove a hedge and replace it with a brand-new garden fence. We used a ratchet technique to remove the Privett hedge trees, and then once the roots had been removed, we began digging the holes for the fence panels.
Removing hedges can be a bit tricky but this one came out without too much fuss. Ashdale Fencing is experienced in replacing both deciduous and evergreen hedges. All the major roots from the hedge have to come out to prevent unwanted regrowth.
Concrete Fence Posts and Gravel Boards
Once the hedge was removed, holes were dug to the correct depths and we added the first concrete posts. Concrete fence posts are strong and durable. We accept that concrete isn’t the most beautiful of all building materials, but when used in conjunction with nicely stained panels, we think you’ll agree that it looks very smart indeed.
We also laid down concrete gravel boards, which provide a strong base for the fence and help to prevent cats and wildlife from undermining the fence. The gravel boards had to be placed 2 x high on the long section of the fence. This was done because the customer wanted to grow shrubs underneath the hedge and wanted to create a visible contrast.
Feather Edge Panels
Finally, we added 5′ Tanelised panels all the way around the garden. As you can see, they look great and have allowed the customer to create a clear and distinctive border in front of their lawn.
